Our stewardship activities in the Gila Wilderness include trail maintenance, solitude monitoring, invasive species eradication, campground clean-up, and visitor education. Most of our members, staff, and volunteers live here in the heart of the Gila, so we care about our public lands. These wild places are
our backyards. And yours too, so come visit and check out all the
Gila National Forest and Gila Wilderness has to offer.

Butterfly Way Project
The purpose of this restoration effort is to restore native flowering plants, increase diversity, and improve the habitat for the benefit of butterflies, birds, and a myriad of insects in the riparian corridor of the Gila River. The project is being implemented at The Nature Conservancy’s Gila River Farm in Cliff, NM.
Your contribution will help us to restore this critical habitat.
Heart of the Gila also maintains an in-town pollinator garden focused on the nectaring needs of migrating Monarch Butterflies.

In memory of
Ella Jaz, Ella Sala, and Michael Mahl, we are motivated to create lasting beauty.
