A new phase of fundraising has been launched to support the continued production of this feature length documentary.  Plans are in the works to follow the mothers of Ella, Ella, and Michael on a journey down the wilderness stretch of river. Additional location filming is planned for summer 2017 in the Cliff- Gila Valley, the lower stretches of the Gila into Arizona, passing many of the major diversions on the Gila, all the way to its end as a dry riverbed at the Mexican border.

Currently, specialized low flow capable rafts are being manufactured in New Mexico, which will be used during the filming of the 40 mile wilderness section of the Gila.

A combination of aerial drones, specially designed gimbal-equipped watercraft, and water-protected 6K RAW film cameras will be used to document the long and winding path that this incredible desert river takes as it nourishes and nurtures the landscape of the southwest.

Filming is expected to be completed by late September 2017, with editing by David Garcia’s production company, Halflife Digital to begin immediately thereafter. Current plans are to have the film Heart of the Gila ready for premier by spring of 2018. Submission to film festivals and wider distribution of the film will follow.
